Kuala lumpur: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Sunday announced around USD 21 million in humanitarian aid for the population of the Gaza Strip, who have been suffering starvation due to Israeli occupation aggressions. The Malaysian prime minister made the pledge while addressing a mass gathering in Kuala Lumpur, which drew more than 100,000 people, to demonstrate against the Israeli occupation atrocities in the Palestinian territory.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated, "Tonight, I announce that Malaysia will contribute another RM 100 million (around USD 21 million) to assist the people of Palestine," a reference to a similar aid package approved by Malaysia a couple of years ago. The Malaysian leader reiterated his country's continued commitment to supporting the Palestinian people amid their worst humanitarian crisis.
The prime minister also flagged off a Gaza Flotilla convoy, noting that it comprises participants from more than 50 countries across the world, including southeast Asian countries. This initiative aims to deliver much-needed assistance to the Gaza Strip, further highlighting Malaysia's active role in international humanitarian efforts.
Speaking to KUNA, President of the Malaysian Consultative Council for Islamic Organizations (MAPIM), Ahmad Sani, mentioned that the three-day gathering came to renew southeast Asia's unity and solidarity with Palestinians. He elaborated on the plans for the First Freedom Flotilla, which will sail from Spain on August 31, followed by a second one on September 4.
