London: Widespread disruption hits London as a strike over pay conditions shuts down nearly all tube services Monday until Thursday. The Tube is not expected to reopen until Friday morning. Londoners reported making longer journeys to get to work on Monday morning, with many choosing to cycle and others taking detours.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the RMT trade union stated the dispute centered on pay, fatigue management, shift patterns, and a reduction in the working week. In response, the Prime Minister's Office urged the RMT union and Transport for London to return to the negotiating table to end the ongoing Tube strike. The office emphasized that the strike affects not only commuters heading to work but also parents doing school drop-offs and those trying to reach hospital appointments.
Transport for London, which operates the capital's public transport network, noted that the union is demanding a reduction in the working week, with staff typically working 35 hours. It mentioned that efforts have been made to resolve the dispute, including offering staff a 3.4 percent pay rise.
