Baabda: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday affirmed that the parliamentary elections would be held in the spring as scheduled. He emphasized the importance of the Lebanese diaspora’s participation in the political process through voting.
According to Kuwait News Agency, President Aoun, in a statement from the Presidency, asserted the commitment to hold legislative polls on time and ensure that Lebanese immigrants can partake in the elections. During a meeting with parliament members at the presidential palace in Baabda, southeast of Beirut, President Aoun acknowledged certain challenges that may impede voting abroad.
The issue of how Lebanese citizens overseas can participate in the elections has been a topic of debate among Lebanese politicians. Some have suggested that nationals living outside the country should return home to cast their votes.
