Lebanon, Egypt Eye Closer Cooperation

Beirut: Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly at the Grand Serail in Beirut, focusing on bolstering bilateral cooperation across several sectors.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Salam stated that the discussions reviewed cooperation priorities in key sectors, including energy, transport, industry, digital economy, infrastructure, education, and irrigation. He emphasized that Lebanese-Egyptian relations extend beyond mutual interests, reflecting a shared vision and a connected path rooted in a common history, which both sides aim to carry forward confidently.

Salam expressed Lebanon's gratitude for Egypt's role in ending the Israeli occupation's ground incursion in southern Lebanon, halting ongoing hostilities, and securing the release of detainees. He also acknowledged Egypt's ongoing support for Lebanon's reform process and its steadfast backing of the country's unity and sovereignty.

Madbouly noted that his visit underscores the depth of the historic ties between Egypt and Lebanon, characterized by mutual respect, sincere solidarity, and joint action for the benefit of both peoples. He referred to Salam's recent visits to Cairo, which culminated in the 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee last November, resulting in nearly 15 agreements on economic, cultural, media, and diplomatic cooperation.

The talks also covered regional political, economic, and security developments. Madbouly praised the efforts of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the government led by Salam in restoring stability and maintaining civil peace. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to supporting Lebanon against any escalation, condemning repeated Israeli violations and incursions into Lebanese territory. Madbouly stressed the necessity for an immediate, unconditional withdrawal from all Lebanese lands, adherence to the cessation of hostilities agreement, and full, non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
