Lebanese President Aoun Outlines Goals of Talks with Israeli Occupation

Beirut: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on Friday that the ongoing negotiations with the Israeli occupation are primarily aimed at stopping hostile actions, securing the release of prisoners, establishing a timetable for the withdrawal of Israeli troops, and resolving disputed issues along the "blue line." Aoun made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from member states of the UN Security Council, emphasizing that the discussions also seek to prevent a new cycle of violence.

According to Kuwait News Agency, President Aoun expressed that Lebanon is committed to negotiations as wars do not yield positive outcomes. He emphasized that only through dialogue can stability, safety, and solutions be achieved, ultimately alleviating the hardships faced by Lebanese citizens. The president assured the delegation that the negotiations, conducted through the "mechanism commission," are intended to serve Lebanon's interests rather than appease the international community.

Recently, Aoun appointed a civilian diplomat to lead discussions with Israeli representatives at the commission meetings, which are held regularly in the southern frontier town of Naquora. The commission, initially composed of military officers, was established following a truce agreement reached in November 2024.
