Kuwait city: Kuwait's National Diwan for Human Rights (NDHR) held a meeting with a delegation from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for the Middle East and North Africa to explore ways to enhance technical cooperation and exchange of expertise.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the NDHR issued a press statement detailing that the meeting focused on supporting institutional partnerships and engaging with relevant UN mechanisms. The discussions covered specialized capacity-building and the follow-up on UN human rights mechanisms, particularly the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
The dialogue also highlighted the NDHR's role in monitoring, follow-up, and coordination as an independent national entity. Both parties emphasized the significance of enhancing cooperation and sharing expertise to bolster national human rights efforts and reinforce commitment to internationally recognized standards and principles.
The meeting underscores the NDHR's intent to expand partnerships with pertinent international and regional organizations and to actively participate in the international human rights system, as stated in their press release. Minister Plenipotentiary Anas Al-Shaheen, head of NDHR's tripartite committee overseeing Diwan affairs, along with several Diwan officials, received the delegation.
