Kuwait’s Naval History Marks Its First Battle in 1783

Kuwait city: The first naval battle in Kuwait's history took place in 1783 during the era of Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah I, who was the country's second ruler. This historic event, known as the Al-Regga battle, occurred against the Bani Kaab tribe, the emirs of Arabestan.

According to Kuwait News Agency, several significant events have marked Kuwait's history since then. In 1961, Kuwait and the Arab League agreed to deploy League forces along the Kuwaiti border in response to Iraqi threats. The following year, in 1962, the constituent assembly began examining the Constitution, and Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a joint defense agreement with the Arab League Secretary Abdulkhaleq Hassouna.

In 1967, Kuwait joined the 1949 Geneva Convention focusing on the care of the wounded, sick, and drowned. Meanwhile, 1980 saw the opening of Al-Messila Beach, which featured three swimming pools, children's playgrounds, and parks. In 1986, decrees were signed by Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to regulate the ministries of oil and finance.

The year 1990 was marked by Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein's demands for American force withdrawals from Saudi Arabia and Israel's withdrawal from Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon as conditions for withdrawing Iraqi troops from Kuwait. In 1997, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurated "boom Al-Muhallab" at the National Museum.

In 1999, the Kuwait National Petroleum Company raised fuel prices by 30-50 percent, also increasing gas prices. The year 2005 witnessed the passing of renowned popular poet Mansour Al-Kharqawi at the age of 80. In 2012, National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Kharafi submitted a letter to the Amir, highlighting the inability to execute a Constitutional Court rule to reinstate the parliament.

Kuwaiti shooters Abdullah Al-Taraqi, Mansour Al-Taraqi, and Abulaziz Al-Saad won gold medals in the 2017 Asian tournament. That same year, the Ministry of Interior arrested 12 convicts related to the Al-Abdali case. Most recently, in 2024, the Chief of the Kuwait National Guard, Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, passed away at age 98 after a long and illustrious career.
