Kuwait’s Namaa Charity Distributes 1,300 Ramadan Food Baskets in Egypt

Kuwait: Kuwait's Namaa Charity on Sunday distributed 1,300 food baskets to eligible families in Egypt under its "Ramadan Basket" project, in cooperation with Egypt's Orman Charity Association.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait's Ambassador to Cairo Ghanem Al-Ghanem attended the distribution ceremony and commended the efforts of the two charities in supporting families in need ahead of Ramadan. He emphasized the continuity of Kuwaiti charitable work and urged Kuwaiti charities to intensify support for humanitarian projects, especially during Ramadan.

Ambassador Al-Ghanem expressed gratitude to the Egyptian government for facilitating the work of Kuwaiti charities and noted that the Kuwaiti Embassy in Cairo is keen to participate in such events. Khaled Al-Shammari, head of the Development and Relief Sector at Namaa Charity, stated that the charity has launched its annual Ramadan program in Egypt and distributed the 1,300 baskets in Cairo.

Each basket contains approximately 20 kilograms of essential items chosen in collaboration with Orman based on families' needs. Al-Shammari highlighted Kuwait's longstanding tradition of extending assistance to brotherly nations, particularly during Ramadan. He added that Namaa operates under the slogan "We Care About People" and aims to convey the solidarity of Kuwaitis with families in Egypt. The Cairo distribution is the first phase, followed by another 1,500 baskets to be distributed in Egypt's Sohag city during Ramadan.

In a statement to KUNA, Orman Deputy Director General Mahmoud Fouad praised the cooperation with Namaa Charity, noting that part of the food baskets had been distributed, with the remainder to be delivered to families' homes. Fouad explained that around 3,000 Ramadan food baskets will be distributed with Namaa across villages through Orman's branches nationwide.

Orman collaborates with several Kuwaiti charities and values their ongoing support for humanitarian work in Egypt. Fouad also mentioned that Orman plans to distribute about 800,000 food baskets during Ramadan, along with an iftar campaign providing ready meals for fasting people and needy families through Ramadan tents and home deliveries.
