Kuwait’s Legislative Milestones and Historical Events

Kuwait city: Kuwait has witnessed significant events throughout its recent history, shaping its legislative and economic landscape. One of the key developments was the signing of a decree by Deputy Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, exempting Arab and foreign aviation companies flying into Kuwait from taxes, conditional upon reciprocal treatment for Kuwaiti airlines.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the UN Security Council, in 1990, issued Resolution 678, which required Iraq to adhere to all relevant UN resolutions, threatening the use of force if Iraq did not withdraw from Kuwait by January 15, 1991. In 1993, Kuwait and Russia furthered their diplomatic ties by signing an agreement focused on security cooperation.

In 2004, the Kuwait Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) launched the largest Initial Public Offering (IPO) in the country's history, offering 90 percent of its shares, equivalent to 990 million shares, of Qurain Petrochemical Industries Company for public subscription. The same year, Kuwait signed a USD 14.6 million cooperation protocol with Japan to rehabilitate Kuwait Bay and enhance its oil sector and human resources.

The year 2008 marked the passing of Khaled Al-Zayed, a pioneering Kuwaiti musician known for his collaborations with various artists and contributions to the Kuwaiti television troupe. In 2012, Kuwait's Health Ministry inaugurated the region's largest ICU unit at Adan Hospital, featuring 41 beds and costing KD six million.

Kuwait demonstrated its commitment to international cooperation in 2016 by offering USD 500 million in easy loans to Tunisia during the "Tunisia 2020" conference. Three years later, in 2019, Kuwait's Ministry of Communications secured a seat in the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The nation mourned the loss of Abdulaziz Al-Doseri in 2021, the founder and first director general of Kuwait Credit Bank, at the age of 101. In 2022, Kuwait's National Assembly engaged in a grilling motion against Dr. Amani Bogamaz, the Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water and Renewable Energy. The same year, Kuwait's economic aid extended to Yemen through a KD 645,000 grant agreement with the UN High Commissioner Office for Refugees for displaced individuals.

Further highlighting its economic activities, Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) announced the export of the first shipment of low-sulfur fuel oil from Al-Zour Refinery in 2022. In 2023, Kuwait's National Assembly took steps to regulate the real estate sector by approving a six-article law concerning real estate agencies and a law to combat the monopoly of unoccupied lands.
