Kuwait’s Historical Milestones in Social Affairs, Sports, and Culture

Kuwait city: Today marks significant milestones in Kuwait's history, spanning from labor registration to cultural inaugurations. The Department of Social Affairs and Labor conducted its first registration of laborers, recording a total of 34,256 individuals.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 2004, Kuwaiti athletes Hussein Habib and Bassel Thamer achieved a remarkable feat by winning the gold medal in the men's double at the Asian bowling tournament held in Hong Kong. Four years later, in 2008, the Sabah Al-Salem International Squash Complex was inaugurated, featuring nine courts, a clinic, a gym, and the capacity to host 1,200 fans.

In 2012, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce took a significant step towards public health by banning smoking in restaurants, hotels, and cafes, mandating the establishment of designated smoking rooms. This move aimed to promote a healthier environment for the public.

Further advancing international relations, in 2014, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a loan agreement with Cameroon, providing assistance amounting to three million Kuwaiti dinars. This agreement underscored Kuwait's commitment to supporting economic development in allied nations.

The realm of science and innovation saw progress in 2018 when the Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) signed a trilateral memorandum with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Giftedness and Creativity and Siemens Company. This strategic partnership was established to foster cooperation in knowledge and scientific advancements.

Additionally, 2020 marked the passing of former Farwaniyah Governor General (retired) Abdulhameed Hajji at the age of 82, a notable figure in Kuwait's political landscape. Looking forward, in 2025, Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi inaugurated the "Kuwait Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025" at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, highlighting Kuwait's dedication to cultural and media prominence in the Arab world.
