Kuwait’s Historical Milestones Highlighted Through Significant Events

Kuwait city: The Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) has chronicled several pivotal moments that have shaped Kuwait's history, emphasizing political, economic, and sporting achievements. On August 26, 1961, a significant political development occurred when Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a decree to hold elections for the Constituent Assembly. This assembly was tasked with drafting a constitution centered on democratic principles and public welfare, marking a crucial step in Kuwait's journey towards a democratic governance structure.

According to Kuwait News Agency, another key historical moment occurred in 1992 when the United Nations Security Council welcomed the decisions made by the borders demarcation commission between Kuwait and Iraq. This decision played a substantial role in stabilizing relations and ensuring peace between the neighboring countries following the Gulf War.

In the realm of sports, August 26 also marks the passing of Mutlaq Al-Shulaimi in 2000. As a member of the 1981 National Assembly, Al-Shulaimi, who was also part of the National Council in 1990 and served as the president of Al-Nasr Sporting Club, left a lasting legacy on Kuwait's political and sports landscape.

In 2010, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development made a significant financial contribution, extending a KD four million loan to Zambia. This loan was allocated to finance the construction of a highway leading to the border with Angola, showcasing Kuwait's commitment to supporting infrastructure development in other nations.

Sporting triumphs were also highlighted in 2018, as Kuwaiti athletes made their mark on the international stage. Mansour Al-Rashidi emerged victorious in the skeet competition at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, while Kuwaiti Karateka Ali Al-Shatti secured a gold medal in the under-67kg Kumite category, bringing pride and recognition to Kuwait's sporting community.

Looking ahead, Kuwait is set to bolster its energy resources with the signing of a 15-year agreement between Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and QatarEnergy in 2024. This agreement will see Qatar supplying Kuwait with three million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually, starting in January 2025, ensuring the diversification and sustainability of Kuwait's energy supply.
