According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1997, Kuwaiti athletes shone on the global stage when Badr Al-Otaibi clinched the gold medal, and his compatriot Hussein Al-Gattan secured the silver in the 55-kg category at the world Karate championship held in the Philippines. This achievement underscored Kuwait's growing presence in international sports.
