Kuwait’s Crown Prince Reaffirms Support for UN’s Role at General Assembly

New york: Kuwait's Amir Representative, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, emphasized Kuwait's support for the United Nations' vital role during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Kuwait News Agency, His Highness the Crown Prince conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and reiterated Kuwait's backing of the significant and central functions performed by the United Nations and its various agencies and programs. His Highness also expressed appreciation for the Secretary-General's work in advancing the organization.

The meeting included discussions on the main themes of the UN session, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. Leaders and heads of state and government participated in this session. His Highness congratulated the Secretary-General on this milestone, highlighting it as a moment for renewing the international community's commitment to reforming the UN and enhancing its role in addressing challenges, consolidating peace and security, and achieving sustainable development globally.

Key agenda items and high-level meetings of the session were addressed, notably the meeting on Palestine and the two-state solution, co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France. The discussions highlighted the importance of advancing recognition of the State of Palestine as a full UN member by major influential countries.

The UN chief acknowledged Kuwait's historic and effective role in supporting the organization's initiatives aimed at international peace, security, and sustainable development. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs at the Amiri Diwan Mazen Issa Al-Issa, the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the UN Ambassador Tariq Mohammad Al-Bannai, and other delegation members.
