Kuwait’s Ambitious Renewable Energy Goal: 50% Usage by 2050

Kuwait City: Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Resources Dr. Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem announced that Kuwait aims to achieve a 50 percent renewable energy usage for its electricity consumption by the year 2050. This was revealed during his address at the Kuwait Sustainable Energy Conference and Accompanying Exhibition, which commenced today and is set to conclude on May 13.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the conference's organization coincides with Kuwait hosting the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), highlighting the nation's capabilities in the renewable energy sector. Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized the necessity of investing in renewable energy to tackle global environmental and economic challenges. He reiterated Kuwait's commitment to developing eco-friendly projects and fostering regional and international partnerships in this field.

Minister Al-Mukhaizeem urged the international community to adopt a unified strategy, focusing on cooperation and knowledge exchange to develop practical solutions for cleaner energy resources. Ahmad Al-Dosari, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the RCREEE, echoed these sentiments, noting that the conference serves as a crucial platform for discussions on renewable energy and aligns with Kuwait Vision 2035.

Dr. Bahjat AbulNasr, representing the Arab League, stated that the conference offers regional and international partners an opportunity to share insights on renewable energy. He assured that the Arab League would support the conference's success through workshops and training courses.

Dr. Grammenos Mastrojeni, Senior Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, stressed that renewable energy is vital for environmental respect and global sustainability, protecting against climate change and natural disasters. Furthermore, Dr. Torkild Byg, deputy head of the EU Mission to Kuwait, praised Kuwait's efforts in renewable energy, noting Europe's goal to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The conference will feature workshops and sessions led by local and international experts, along with an exhibition showcasing advancements in renewable energy.
