Kuwait Wins Vice Presidency of Asian Countries at Arab Union for Tourist Media

Cairo: Kuwait has secured the Vice Presidency of Asian countries at the Arab Union for Tourist Media (AUTM) for the period of 2024 to 2026. This achievement was announced during the General Assembly elections held in Cairo.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this accomplishment marks another milestone in Kuwait's efforts to enhance its presence and influence within regional tourism media circles. The role will involve active participation in shaping strategies and initiatives aimed at promoting tourism in the Asian region, further cementing Kuwait's commitment to fostering regional cooperation and media engagement.

The news of Kuwait's new role at AUTM comes amidst a history of significant national and international developments. In 1980, Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree to regulate trade in jewels. A decade later, in 1990, he established the National Council to replace the National Assembly, a body whose mandate lasted until 1992. In 2000, the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) accepted the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) as a member during a meeting in Moscow.

In 2001, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) increased its oil production capacity by 210,000 barrels per day with the inauguration of Assembly Complex 28 in Al-Manageesh. The following year, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signed a decree approving the GCC unified custom law.

The nation also mourned the passing of Kuwaiti actor Faihan Al-Arbeed in 2010 at the age of 69. In 2016, Kuwait demonstrated its commitment to global environmental efforts by signing the international climate treaty at the UN General Assembly, following the approval of the Paris climate treaty by 195 nations in December 2015.

Kuwait's recent election to the Vice Presidency at AUTM is yet another testament to its ongoing dedication to engaging with and contributing to regional and global initiatives.
