Geneva: The Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Office in Geneva has called upon the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to adopt a firm and decisive position against the “flagrant human rights violations” committed by Israeli authorities in Palestine. Counsellor Nasser Al-Ramzi, representing the mission, highlighted the severe impact of Israel’s decision to block humanitarian aid to Gaza and the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Ramzi addressed a debate on a comprehensive report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights during the 58th session of the HRC. He emphasized the urgency for effective measures and pressure to halt Israeli violations and facilitate the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the borders set on June 4, 1967, in line with relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.
Furthermore, the Kuwaiti diplomat discussed the situation in Sudan, urging respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial unity while encouraging belligerent parties to seek a peaceful resolution. Al-Ramzi also called for increased relief efforts to support the Sudanese population.
Regarding Syria, Al-Ramzi stressed the importance of maintaining the nation’s territorial integrity, stability, and state institutions, as well as lifting international sanctions imposed during the era of the previous regime. He condemned all forms of hate speech and xenophobic actions, including incidents of burning the Quran.
Al-Ramzi reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for the role of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in enhancing the protection of human rights and civil liberties. He advocated against the politicization of humanitarian issues and the application of double standards in addressing them.
