Kuwait city: Acting Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Acting Minister of Finance, and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem announced that the Kuwaiti government is actively reviewing strategic projects and enhancing coordination with contractors to bolster public-private partnerships (PPPs) and improve investment conditions.
According to Kuwait News Agency, a statement from the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW) revealed that Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem met with representatives of Gulf Energy and Water Alliance Company to discuss the Al-Zour North Power and Water Plant's latest developments, specifically Phases Two and Three. The project is deemed crucial for increasing Kuwait's electricity and water production capacity, thereby enhancing the nation's energy and water security.
Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem emphasized the importance of adhering to the highest technical and environmental standards and expediting the project's progress to align with sustainable development goals. He stressed the necessity of meeting project deadlines and achieving strategic objectives. Company representatives reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the project according to global best practices and provided an overview of the project's contractual framework, which is based on a build-own-operate (BOO) model.
The Al-Zour North Power and Water Plant is designed to generate approximately 2,700 megawatts of electricity using combined-cycle generation and produce 120 million imperial gallons of water per day through reverse osmosis. An update on the project's timeline and progress was also presented during the meeting.
Attendees of the meeting included Eng. Jassim Al-Nouri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Energy and Water Alliance Company, senior company officials, Fahad Al-Nusef from the Gulf Investment Corporation, MEW's Undersecretary Dr. Adel Al-Zamel, and Director General of Kuwait's Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP) Asmaa Al-Mousa, along with other ministry officials.
