Kuwait city: Kuwait has reaffirmed the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states' commitment to the unity of Palestinian territories, emphasizing it as a crucial condition for establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This position was articulated by Fahad Al-Ajmi, the Second Secretary of Kuwait's Mission to the United Nations, in a statement delivered on behalf of GCC members before the fourth committee of the 80th UN General Assembly session.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the GCC states have expressed their appreciation for the efforts made by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States in reaching an inclusive ceasefire in the region. These efforts have facilitated the release of hostages and prisoners and ensured the sustainable and safe flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Al-Ajmi highlighted that history shows occupation and colonization cause suffering and impede development.
Al-Ajmi further noted that the occupation of Palestinian territories is the longest-standing military occupation in modern times, hindering the achievement of lasting peace. He criticized settlement policies, the construction of the separation wall, and the division of Palestinian lands, which undermine peaceful coexistence and a meaningful political process.
In his statement, Al-Ajmi called on Israel to end its occupation since 1967, halt arbitrary measures against Palestinians, return properties to legitimate owners, and compensate those affected. He also reiterated the GCC's support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara Desert, aligning with the final communique of the 45th Gulf Summit hosted by Kuwait.
Additionally, Al-Ajmi condemned Iran's continued occupation of the UAE's three islands: Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa. The GCC reiterated its support for the UAE's sovereignty over these islands, considering them an integral part of UAE territory. The GCC called on Iran to engage in direct negotiations or refer the matter to the International Court of Justice to resolve the issue.
In conclusion, Al-Ajmi stressed that freedom and justice cannot thrive under oppression and occupation, emphasizing the importance of human dignity.
