Kuwait city: Kuwait Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya emphasized the United Nations' enduring role in promoting global peace and development, as he addressed an audience at the UN House in Kuwait on the occasion of the organization's 80th anniversary. Al-Yahya remarked on the significance of the UN's mission as a platform for countries to tackle global challenges.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Yahya, speaking at a gathering attended by officials and ambassadors, noted that this year's theme, "Building our future together," underscores the spirit of solidarity and shared responsibility. He highlighted Kuwait's dedication to fostering international cooperation to ensure peace, development, and human dignity.
Al-Yahya reflected on Kuwait's history with the UN since joining in 1963, emphasizing the nation's commitment to supporting the UN's programs, funds, and agencies. Kuwait's partnership with the UN is rooted in principles of international peace, security, sustainable development goals, and human rights protection.
The Foreign Minister further mentioned that the hosting of the UN House in Kuwait, which houses over 20 UN agencies and programs, is a testament to the strong partnership and Kuwait's unwavering support for UN initiatives across humanitarian, development, and diplomatic sectors.
Ghada Al-Tahir, the UN Resident Coordinator to the State of Kuwait, praised Kuwait as a model of multiparty partnership and humanitarian cooperation. She acknowledged the country's efforts in supporting peace and sustainable development, especially during this significant anniversary year for the UN.
Al-Tahir highlighted the pressing global challenges such as conflicts, humanitarian and economic crises, and climate change. She expressed appreciation for the contributions of Kuwaiti leaders in supporting UN missions related to peace, human rights, and development.
The partnership between Kuwait and the UN has expanded to encompass projects in health, environment, youth and women empowerment, fighting corruption, and combating human trafficking.
