Washington: Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the United States, Sheikha Al-Zain Al-Sabah, reaffirmed her country's commitment to cooperation with international partners to alleviate the suffering of the people of Sudan. Kuwait's contribution to the relief efforts in Sudan amounts to more than USD 40 million for the fiscal year 2025-2026, as stated by the ambassador to KUNA on Tuesday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikha Al-Zain highlighted Kuwait's initiatives, including the launch of humanitarian air and maritime lifelines to deliver essential aid supplies such as medicines and foodstuffs to the internally displaced people in Sudan. She addressed these efforts at a function organized by the Donald Trump Peace Foundation aimed at lobbying for the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF).
The event was attended by key figures including Massad Fares Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs, Tom Fletcher, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, and Allison Hooker, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. Established in 2006, the SHF is a rapid funding mechanism supporting national and international NGOs and UN agencies, responding to critical emergencies. It operates under the leadership of the Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan, ensuring timely allocation of donor resources to critical humanitarian needs as outlined in the Sudan Humanitarian Needs Response Plan.
