Seville: The State of Kuwait has been committed to effectively financing global development and supporting multilateral collaboration, stressed a Kuwaiti official on Wednesday. Delivering a speech at the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD) in Seville, Spain, head of the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) Sheikh Saud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah said Kuwait is committed to cooperation and open to address common challenges as well as accelerating the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development plan.
According to Kuwait News Agency, funding sustainability is still one of the most challenges hindering the sustainable development goals, Sheikh Saud added. Since its independence in 1961, Kuwait has sought to address this challenge with the establishment of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), which has financed a number of development projects in vital and main sectors in various countries, he elaborated.
Sheikh Saud also shed light on Kuwait’s ambitious goals on preserving the environment and harmful emissions. Sustainable development could not be achieved without peace, she affirmed, reiterating Kuwait’s unwavering supportive position to the legitimate rights of Palestinians, topped with setting up their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Sheikh Saud is leading Kuwait’s delegation to the conference that includes Ambassador to Spain Ziad Al-Anbaei, acting director general of KFAED Waleed Al-Bahr, and others. The conference kicked off on Monday with the participation of more than 60 heads of state and premiers as well as over 200 official delegations. The participants unanimously agreed on the Seville Declaration on mobilizing further funding for development.
