Kuwait city: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Thursday launched the 10th edition of the annual national blood donation campaign, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The three-day campaign was initiated to honor the sacrifices of Kuwait's martyrs and to promote national unity among government, military, and civil society sectors.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi urged citizens and residents to donate blood at all Ministry of Health centers, including the Central Blood Bank in Jabriya. Within the first two hours of the campaign, over 100 blood bags were collected, reflecting a strong community response.
Colonel Yousef Mirshed, Assistant Director General of the General Directorate of Security Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior, affirmed the ministry's continued support for such initiatives. He emphasized the humanitarian and social aspects of the campaign, highlighting its alignment with security duties.
Dr. Reem Al-Roudhan, Director of Blood Transfusion Services, noted that the campaign has been running for a decade with the aim of promoting voluntary donation and saving lives. She reported that about 95,000 units were collected last year, with an annual increase of 4 percent. Dr. Al-Roudhan also highlighted the effective participation of the military corps, represented by the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and the National Guard, as well as civil society institutions and private sectors.
