Kuwait city: Over the past nine months, Kuwait has witnessed several cultural events in line with its selection as the Arab Capital of Culture for 2025.
According to Kuwait News Agency, this recognition highlights Kuwait's active contributions to the cultural field, its significant legacy, and the achievements it has accomplished over the past decades.
These cultural activities have included festivals, art exhibitions, honorary awards, book fairs, and a variety of artistic and theatrical performances. Furthermore, several workshops, discussion panels, and training courses have been organized to engage the public and foster cultural growth. The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) selected Kuwait as the Arab Capital of Culture to acknowledge its pioneering position in the cultural domain and its commitment to developing cultural content on regional, Arab, and international levels, reflecting its national identity and cultural heritage.
On February 13, the "Kuwait Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025" events were inaugurated by the representative of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The opening ceremony saw the participation of ministers and media and cultural figures from across the Arab world. Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi emphasized Kuwait's comprehensive cultural vision, which has been a cornerstone since its independence.
The 30th Qurain Cultural Festival, held from February 3 to 12, showcased three decades of cultural creativity through a schedule packed with art, music, literature, and intellectual seminars. The festival's opening ceremony featured a musical performance titled "From Kuwait," along with a mini-operetta and a traditional "tanbura" performance.
Another key initiative, the "Pulse of Culture" project, was launched on February 15 by the Public Authority for Youth in cooperation with Kuwait University. Aimed at enhancing students' cultural awareness and skills, the project included 38 cultural activities until April, featuring practical workshops, discussion panels, and training courses, alongside various competitions.
An intellectual symposium titled "Culture in Kuwait Before Oil" was held on April 27, drawing academics and thinkers to explore Kuwait's historical roots. The ongoing cultural initiatives were complemented by a ministerial decision on July 19, reorganizing theatrical and artistic performances in Kuwait, and the "Honoring Gulf Creators" award on July 23, recognizing media personality Amal Abdullah and literary critic Saleh Al-Gharib.
The inclusion of the Kuwait Towers in the Arab Heritage List under the category of modern architecture was announced on July 30, followed by the eighth Summer Book Fair on August 24, held at the Alumni Association headquarters, featuring participation from various cultural institutions and publishing houses.
