Kuwait-Iraq Maritime Border Demarcation Committee Convenes in Baghdad

Baghdad: The 13th meeting of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Joint Technical and Legal Committee on the Demarcation of Maritime Borders beyond Marker 162 was held in Baghdad on Monday. The meeting was attended by representatives from both Kuwait and Iraq, focusing on the ongoing efforts to finalize the maritime border demarcation between the two nations.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Kuwaiti delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, while the Iraqi side was headed by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice Zyad Al-Tamimi. Both parties reiterated their commitment to the regular convening of the committee to work towards a resolution on the demarcation issue.

During the talks, the representatives emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea as they continue their discussions. The focus remains on reaching a mutual agreement on the maritime borders beyond Marker No. 162, which has been a point of negotiation for the committee in its previous meetings.
