Kuwait city: The Interior Ministry's efforts in digitization and digitalization are making significant strides in service efficiency and public safety. These initiatives represent a leap toward completing services within minutes and enhancing safety and protection measures.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the ministry's focus on digitization aligns with the New Kuwait Vision 2035 for development. The ministry aims to streamline government services by enhancing transparency and efficiency. More than 30 million electronic transactions have been registered through the "Sahel" government transactions application, significantly reducing the burden on service centers and minimizing paperwork.
The Ministry of Interior provides 37 services via the Sahel app, including renewing residency papers, visas, car licenses, paying traffic fines, and more. Additionally, the app offers 19 appointment services for affiliated departments, positively impacting workflow and service delivery.
The introduction of the "Kuwait Visa" electronic scheme marks another step in the ministry's digital transformation. The scheme allows for online applications for various tourism, family, and business visas, supporting Kuwait's goal to become an international financial and commercial hub.
A key component of the ministry's digitalization efforts is the biometric system, designed to prevent identity manipulation and enhance border security. This project has created a comprehensive database exceeding five million entries, aiding in the apprehension of wanted individuals and reinforcing the ministry's security role.
The digitalization process has also improved the capabilities of the General Directorate of Coast Guard with the integration of new smart vessels that operate autonomously. In the realm of traffic management, a new law introduced on April 22, 2025, incorporates AI, smart cameras, and digital tools to monitor traffic and enhance road safety.
Traffic statistics show a positive trend, with a 16 percent decrease in violations in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. Accidents also fell by 45 percent, with a notable reduction in traffic-related deaths by 34 percent during the same timeframe.
