Amb. Al-Hayen: Aggression on Qatar Has Grave “Consequences”

Geneva: The Israeli aggression against Qatar violated all laws concerning national sovereignty and it will have grave consequences on the region and the world, Kuwait's Permanent Representative at the UN and International Organizations Headquarters in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, said on Monday. Delivering a statement to members of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Ambassador Al-Hayen -- also serves as head of the Gulf Ambassadors Council -- emphasized the importance of sending a clear message that such actions are rejected by international laws, conventions, and human rights.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Council is obliged to look into the protection of human rights in accordance with UNGA resolution 60/251 and must investigate any violations of such rights, he affirmed. He highlighted that defending human rights is a fundamental tenet of international law and a collective responsibility entrusted to the Council.

He reiterated the GCC's condemnation of the Israeli aggression against the State of Qatar on September ninth, which affected regional and international stability and was considered as a clear violation of global accords and human rights. Ambassador Al-Hayen also noted that the act had garnered widespread condemnation from regional and international entities, including the UN and others.

He commended Qatar's role in mediating and attempting to resolve the situation in the Middle East, particularly in the Gaza Strip, stating that peace remains the only path to resolving conflicts. The Human Rights Council agreed on Monday to the GCC countries' request to hold a session on the Israeli aggression against Qatar, which would be held tomorrow.
