BEIRUT: A conference and exhibition for food security and medication, held in Kuwait and organized by the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, has proposed utilizing the experiences of advanced states to diversify import chains and pharmaceutical industries. The event, which lasted three days, concluded with several recommendations aimed at strengthening local capacities in critical sectors. According to Kuwait News Agency, Dr. Maysa Al-Saleh, the head of the convention's scientific committee, emphasized the importance of boosting local production and supporting sustainable agriculture. The conferees also advocated for enhancing domestic food industries. Dr. Al-Saleh highlighted the need to maintain food reserves to address shortfalls in local food chains and to meet needs during emergencies and crises. She encouraged innovation and the use of modern technologies, such as smart cultivation, to achieve these goals. Dr. Al-Saleh further stressed the necessity of diversifying import resour ces to reduce risks associated with supply chain disruptions. She highlighted the importance of strengthening local pharmaceutical industries to achieve self-sufficiency in basic drugs and to establish a strategic stockpile of medicines. These measures are seen as vital for ensuring long-term food and medication security in the region.
