Geneva: Kuwait's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullah Al-Yahya headed the country's delegation to the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) held in Geneva on February 24-25. Al-Yahya emphasized Kuwait's commitment to human rights principles rooted in its Constitution and religion, aligning with UN charters and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Yahya expressed Kuwait's readiness to submit and discuss its national periodical reports as planned. He highlighted the establishment of a national mechanism to efficiently and effectively evaluate the country's adherence to international commitments. Kuwait is reviewing laws related to women and youth affairs to enhance human rights protections.
Al-Yahya stated Kuwait's preparedness to present its comprehensive periodical report before the UNHRC in May. He also addressed the global humanitarian and moral responsibility towards the Palestinian people, criticizing Israeli occupation forces for violating international law and UN resolutions through ongoing military operations in Gaza.
The minister urged the international community to provide protection for Palestinians and support their rights. He reaffirmed Kuwait's stance on establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
Al-Yahya also stressed the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty and supporting Lebanon in restoring stability and security. Kuwait condemned Israeli violations of Lebanon's sovereignty and called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territories.
