Kuwait city: Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, and current Chairman of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Council, emphasized on Sunday the role of the European Union (EU) as a key partner in supporting stability and strengthening an international order based on respect for international law and non-interference in the internal affairs of states. Al-Yahya delivered these remarks during the second high-level forum on security and regional cooperation between the GCC and the EU, hosted by Kuwait, with participation from foreign ministers and senior officials from both sides. According to Kuwait News Agency, the forum precedes the 29th joint ministerial meeting between the GCC and the EU, scheduled to be held tomorrow. Minister Al-Yahya chaired the GCC side of the forum, while the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, led the European delegation. The Secretary-General of the GCC, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, was also present. Al-Yahya stated that security coop eration between the GCC and the EU is a fundamental pillar of their strategic partnership. He highlighted that the GCC-EU collaboration is based on shared values, mutual interests, and a vision aimed at addressing current challenges and establishing innovative frameworks. Al-Yahya condemned Israeli attacks that have disregarded legal and humanitarian considerations, including recent aggression against Qatar, describing it as a violation of international law and a threat to security. He affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, stressing the need to end Israeli occupation policies and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza. In this context, he welcomed the Gaza peace plan announced by US President Donald Trump, seeing it as a step towards ending suffering and paving the way for restoring security in the Middle East. Al-Yahya expressed hope for a just and comprehensive peace based on a two-state solution. Regarding Iraq, Al-Yahya affirmed Kuwait's ongoing efforts to assist Iraq in meeting its p eople's aspirations and contributing to regional security. He urged Iraq to resolve outstanding issues with Kuwait in accordance with international law, including the return of Kuwaiti prisoners and property. He also called for completing the maritime border demarcation with Kuwait and fully implementing the agreement on navigation in Khor Abdullah. Al-Yahya reiterated that the forum serves as a platform to enhance dialogue and communication between the two sides, expressing hope that its discussions would yield practical results to address current challenges and meet shared aspirations.
