Kuwait Envoy Highlights UN’s Role in Multilateral Diplomacy

Kuwait city: Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Tareq Al Banai, emphasized the United Nations as a fundamental element of diplomatic engagement and multilateral action, reaffirming Kuwait's longstanding relationship with the organization. Al-Banai's remarks came during a panel discussion organized by the United Nations Mission in Kuwait, part of the fourth season of the Young Ambassadors Program, which convened participants for dialogue.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the discussion included participation from United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kuwait Ghada Al Taher, the United Kingdom Ambassador Qudsi Rashid, and Canada's Ambassador Tara Scheerwater, illustrating broad international involvement within the forum. Al-Banai elaborated on Kuwait's relationship with the United Nations, which encompasses human rights, sustainable development, political issues, and cooperation with the Security Council and other entities, underscoring Kuwait's consistent approach in alignment with United Nations objectives.

Al-Banai also highlighted the importance of embedding sustainability domestically, beginning at home and in educational settings, as a pathway toward the future. He noted the growing positive change in behavior and environmental awareness among younger generations in Kuwaiti society in recent years.

United Nations Resident Coordinator Ghada Al-Taher contributed that the session aims to equip youth with diplomatic skills for an evolving world, stressing the importance of investing in a generation expected to lead responsibly in the near future. Al-Taher cautioned that by 2050, approximately 70 percent of the global population will live in urban areas, presenting significant challenges related to living conditions, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and environmental suitability amid increasing population pressures.

She stated that the dialogue covered topics such as urban stability, sustainable development pathways, Kuwait's international priorities, and its roles in sustainability, urban development, environmental protection, and climate change, facilitated by direct engagement with Young Ambassadors from diverse backgrounds worldwide.

The fourth season of the Young Ambassadors Program, which aligns with Sustainable Development Goal Eleven on sustainable cities, is jointly organized by the United Nations Mission and the British and Canadian embassies, aiming to empower youth through experiential learning.
