Kuwait City: Minister of Social Affairs and Family and Childhood Affairs Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila announced Kuwait's endorsement of the Berlin-Amman Declaration on Persons with Disabilities, adopted during the third Global Disability Summit held in Berlin, Germany.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Minister Al-Huwaila stated that Kuwait's endorsement of this international declaration reaffirms its commitment to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. The declaration promotes their active participation and inclusion in society through developmental policies aimed at ensuring a dignified and sustainable life.
She highlighted Kuwait's support for the principle of "15% for 15%," which calls for allocating at least 15 percent of international development programs for the inclusion of persons with disabilities, who make up approximately 15 percent of the global population. Kuwait plans to engage organizations representing persons with disabilities in all stages of planning, implementation, and monitoring of these programs.
Minister Al-Huwaila also emphasized the importance of collecting accurate data and statistics to formulate comprehensive development policies. This approach aims to support the effective participation of persons with disabilities in the development process and ensure equal opportunities.
She stated that this initiative reflects Kuwait's approach toward promoting social justice and equality among all segments of society, aligning with the political leadership's directives for achieving sustainable development.
Al-Huwaila added that Kuwait remains committed to adopting humanitarian initiatives and transforming the provisions of the declaration into tangible realities that guarantee a better future for persons with disabilities.
The third Global Disability Summit, held in Berlin from April 2-3, was jointly organized by the governments of Germany and Jordan, in collaboration with the International Disability Alliance (IDA). Approximately 100 countries, international organizations, and civil society representatives participated, aiming to strengthen global efforts for the inclusive integration of persons with disabilities across various areas of life.
