Kuwait Emphasizes Global Coordination for Reintegration of Conflict Zone Refugees

New york: Assistant Foreign Minister for Development and International Cooperation, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan, highlighted the necessity for enhanced international coordination to create sustainable strategies for the reintegration and rehabilitation of individuals from refugee camps and detention centers in conflict areas. This call to action aims at ensuring a global approach to protect and promote human rights, fostering a world of security and stability.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Mashaan made these remarks during a high-level international conference focused on the return of individuals from camps and detention centers in conflict zones. The conference, organized by the Iraqi government and supported by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, took place in New York on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Mashaan asserted that Kuwait places significant importance on maintaining international peace and security and has a commendable track record in combating terrorism. He emphasized Kuwait's continuous commitment to enhancing its national capabilities to combat terrorism and aligning its efforts with international initiatives.

The ambassador noted that Kuwait actively participates in the international coalition against ISIS, holding the chairmanship of the coalition's working group to prevent the flow of foreign terrorist fighters. Since 2019, Kuwait has facilitated the transfer of over 500 fighters and their family members, in collaboration with the United States, and continues to manage similar requests from other nations.

Al-Mashaan stressed that addressing the plight of children in conflict zones is a shared global responsibility. Ignoring their suffering, he warned, could result in a new generation of instability. He advocated for collective action to provide these children with opportunities for a positive future.

Ambassador Al-Mashaan also urged the adoption of multi-dimensional strategies to improve border security. He called for the use of modern technology, advanced systems, and biometric databases to prevent infiltration and confront security threats. Additionally, he reiterated Kuwait's unwavering stance in condemning terrorism in all its forms and its commitment to combatting it with a comprehensive and advanced approach that enhances stability and social cohesion.
