Kuwait Dive Team Completes Mooring Buoys Maintenance at Qaruh Island

Kuwait City: The Kuwait Dive Team, operating under the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF), has successfully completed maintenance work on marine mooring buoys around Qaruh Island. This effort is part of the ongoing project to protect coral reefs across Kuwait.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the head of the team, Waleed Al-Fadhel, stated that the operations began at coral reef sites and included repairs in the southern islands and coastal areas. Qaruh Island now has 22 mooring buoys placed around its perimeter, increasing the total number of buoys installed by the team to 107. These buoys are built to accommodate various sizes of boats and yachts and are designed to minimize damage to coral reefs while meeting environmental and aesthetic needs.

Al-Fadhel highlighted that these buoys are crucial for identifying reef locations, especially during low tide, and help prevent coral destruction caused by human activities. He further explained that Kuwait's coral reefs are essential for marine life, offering environmental and economic benefits. In many coastal nations, cities depend on resources related to reefs.

The team, committed to the project, works daily with divers, a dedicated maintenance workshop, and specialized boats to ensure the tasks are completed to the highest standards. Al-Fadhel described Qaruh Island as one of Kuwait's most beautiful islands, known for its clear waters, rich coral diversity, and visits from sea turtles for nesting.

He also urged fishermen to refrain from using nets near coral reefs, warning that such practices harm marine ecosystems, pose navigational hazards, and violate environmental laws.
