Kuwait Discovers Significant Hydrocarbon Materials in Commercial Quantities

Kuwait City: Kuwait has announced a significant discovery of hydrocarbon materials in commercial quantities, reinforcing its position as a key player in the oil and gas sector in the region. The Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) revealed in a statement to KUNA that this latest discovery is part of a series of ongoing explorations aligned with Kuwait’s maritime exploration strategy.

According to Kuwait News Agency, tests conducted at the Al-Zubair geological trap, specifically at the Jlaiaa-2 well, indicated promising productivity. Spanning a 74-square-kilometer area, the site contains an estimated 800 million barrels of medium-density oil. This oil is noted to be free from hydrogen sulfur gas and has a low carbon dioxide content. Additionally, the site holds approximately 600 billion standard cubic feet of associated gas, equating to about 950 million barrels of oil equivalent.

The KOC statement emphasized that this discovery is a substantial contribution to Kuwait’s hydrocarbon resources. It is expected to enhance forecasts for future discoveries from the same geological period. The Al-Jlaiaa field marks the second major find in the current exploration strategy, following the identification of the Al-Nokhaza maritime field in July 2024.
