Kuwait Commemorates Historical Milestones in Governance and Development

Kuwait City: Kuwait has marked several significant events throughout its history, reflecting its progress in governance, sports, and health initiatives.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 1960, Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah established the Fatwa and Legislation Department. This state body was tasked with reviewing draft laws, regulations, and decisions made by various government entities to ensure their compliance with the Kuwait Constitution and laws.

In the realm of sports, 2002 saw Kuwait emerging victorious in the Second West Asia Games, securing a total of 71 medals, including 31 gold. This achievement highlighted Kuwait's dedication to sports and its athletes' prowess on the international stage.

Further recognizing Kuwait's international contributions, in 2019, the World Bank honored Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. This accolade was in recognition of his efforts in supporting economic and social development both regionally and internationally.

In response to the global Covid-19 pandemic, Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) in 2020 handed over Al-Zour Quarantine and KIPIC Medical Center to the Ministry of Health. The facility, with a capacity of 1,700 beds, was a critical measure in the country's pandemic response plan.

In 2021, the Kuwait Council of Ministers made a decision regarding Ramadan practices amidst the ongoing pandemic. Taraweeh prayers were allowed in mosques for men for only 15 minutes, while I'tikaf, lectures, iftar, and suhoor meals in mosques were prohibited. This move was part of the country's efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
