Kuwait city: The Kuwaiti Cabinet on Tuesday approved a draft decree-law renaming the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as the "Public Authority for Civil Aviation". This decision was made during the Cabinet's customary weekly meeting, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah at Bayan Palace.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the renaming reflects the government's recognition of the need for a comprehensive legislative framework to regulate civil aviation in Kuwait. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Shereeda Al-Mousherji emphasized the importance of this new legislation in ensuring the sector's ability to adapt to global advancements. The legislation aligns with requirements set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for licensing airports and air navigation facilities.
The Cabinet has forwarded the draft decree-law to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for final approval. During the meeting, the Cabinet also reviewed letters addressed to His Highness the Amir from leaders of various countries regarding joint cooperation in multiple domains.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved a draft decree-law amending the Penal Code, specifically Article (58 bis), which imposes penalties on civil servants who fail to implement court rulings within 90 days of notification. Recommendations from the ministerial committee of legal affairs on draft laws, agreements, and MoUs with other countries were also approved.
The Cabinet concluded the meeting by mourning the passing of former Minister of Information Dr. Bader Al-Yaqoub, acknowledging his contributions and achievements during his tenure.
