Kuwait city: Kuwaiti Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs, Ambassador Sameeh Hayat, highlighted the depth and strength of exceptional Kuwaiti-Sino relations, which spans more than five decades, marking a model of mutual trust, respect, and stability. The remarks were made during a ceremony held by the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait to commemorate 55 years since Kuwait and China established diplomatic relations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Hayat emphasized that Kuwaiti-Sino relations have deepened over time and witnessed significant stances, particularly in 1990 when China expressed its unwavering support for Kuwait's sovereignty. He noted that diplomatic ties were initially forged in 1971, making Kuwait the first Gulf and Arab country to establish such relations with China, marking a pivotal moment in their relationship.
Discussing the economic partnership between the two nations, Hayat stated that Kuwait is currently the fifth largest oil supplier to China, which has been Kuwait's top trade partner for eight consecutive years. The comprehensive strategic partnership continues to grow under the leadership of both countries, with initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and agreements in renewable energy and infrastructure serving as key examples.
Hayat also mentioned Kuwait's anticipation of participating at a high level in the upcoming Arab-Chinese and Gulf-Chinese summits in Beijing next June, and hosting the third Arab-Gulf-Chinese summit in 2030. These events reflect a shared commitment to fostering strategic dialogue and building a cooperative partnership that benefits joint security, development, and welfare.
Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, Yang Xin, remarked on the rapid development of bilateral relations across various fields. He noted a significant increase in trade volume from USD 22 million at the start of diplomatic ties to USD 18.58 billion in 2025. Xin also highlighted the importance of collaboration on major projects, including the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port project, which supports the New Kuwait 2035 vision.
