KUWAIT CITY: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah emphasized the importance of dialogue in overcoming challenges among neighboring countries during the opening session of the 45th GCC Summit. Highlighting the principle of good neighborliness, he called for constructive communication as a means to address regional issues. According to Kuwait News Agency, His Highness the Amir specifically urged Iraq to address the legal status of the agreement regarding maritime navigation in Khor Abdullah. He advocated for the resumption of technical team meetings to ensure compliance with the 2008 Security Exchange Protocol. Furthermore, he called for joint legal technical teams to reconvene and work on demarcating the Kuwaiti-Iraqi maritime borders beyond boundary point number 162, in line with international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. His Highness also expressed hope that the support of regional leaders would guarantee the continued involvement of the Security Council i n matters related to prisoners, missing persons, and Kuwaiti property, including national archives, following the end of the UN's Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) mandate. Earlier, he officially opened the 45th Session of the Supreme Council of the GCC, reiterating Kuwait's commitment to fostering regional cooperation.
