Beijing: Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Jasem Al-Najem expressed Kuwait's interest in enhancing cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in political and security sectors during a meeting with the SCO's new Secretary-General, Nurlan Yermekbayev, at the organization's headquarters in Beijing.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Najem stated that he delivered a congratulatory letter from Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya to Yermekbayev, marking his appointment as SCO chief for a three-year term. The meeting also focused on discussing the bilateral relations between Kuwait and the SCO, highlighting Kuwait's status as a dialogue partner since 2023.
Al-Najem acknowledged the participation of former SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming in the fourth high-level conference on "Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms," which took place in Kuwait in November 2024. He emphasized Kuwait's dedication to upholding peace, security, and combating terrorism, aligning with the organization's primary objectives.
In response, Yermekbayev commended Kuwait for its active role at both regional and international levels and praised its ongoing involvement in SCO programs and activities. He reiterated the organization's openness to Kuwait's contributions and expressed hope for continued fruitful cooperation to advance shared interests and the organization's initiatives.
