Kurdistan Region President Highlights International Coalition’s Role in Combating Terrorism


Erbil: President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq Nechirvan Barzani has underscored the importance of the international coalition’s presence in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to address terrorism threats.



According to Kuwait News Agency, this affirmation was made during a meeting between President Barzani and an Iraqi military delegation led by Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, General Abdulamir Yarallah. The meeting included senior Iraqi military and security officers, the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga, and officials from the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs.



The discussions centered on joint efforts between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga, the relationship with the international coalition, and Iraq’s military and security links with the United States under the bilateral security agreement. The conversation also touched upon the ongoing terrorism threats and the situation in Syria. Both parties concurred that the Islamic State remains a genuine threat to the stability and security of both Iraq and Syria.



Barzani asserted the necessity for continuous support from the international coalition in tackling terrorism threats, in alignment with Iraq’s security agreements. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing collaboration between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army.



General Yarallah emphasized the strength of the current cooperation between the Iraqi army and the Peshmerga and commended the efforts of the Peshmerga Chief of Staff. The meeting also covered topics such as border security, the condition of border crossings, particularly those along the Iraq-Syria border, and the conclusion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq scheduled for September of the following year.
