KUNA Dialogue Highlights Importance of Media Credibility for Audience Trust

Kuwait city: Participants in the KUNA-hosted dialogue on Wednesday affirmed that media credibility is essential for boosting transparency and bolstering confidence with the audience. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of maintaining trust in media outlets as they navigate the evolving landscape of journalism.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the chief editor of the Kuwaiti daily newspaper, Al-Qabas, Walid Al-Nisf, addressed the necessity of keeping pace with digital transformation in journalism. He noted a significant shift in advertising budgets, revealing that in 2015, newspapers held 60 percent of the advertisement budget in Kuwait, a figure that has now dwindled to nine percent. Al-Nisf shared that Al-Qabas had dispatched a delegation to the British newspaper, The Guardian, to learn from their digital transformation journey. The strategists from The Guardian advised focusing investments on digital media.

Nasser Al-Otaibi, the editor-in-chief of Al-Jarida daily, expressed his acceptance of diverse coverage among media outlets, suggesting that this diversity prevents Kuwaiti media from having a "single color." Meanwhile, Adnan Al-Rashed, President of the Kuwaiti Journalists Association, emphasized the reliance of daily newspapers on KUNA for news gathering. He highlighted that during the 1990-1991 Iraq aggression, KUNA became the official voice of the state of Kuwait.
