Kuwait City: Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), Ambassador Khaled Al-Maghames, emphasized Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing its partnerships with international humanitarian organizations. This was highlighted during his address at the opening of a workshop on international humanitarian law organized by KRCS in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Maghames stated that Kuwait has consistently prioritized humanitarian issues, establishing itself as a leading donor country in support of relief and humanitarian efforts. He underscored Kuwait’s determination to maintain its humanitarian mission, particularly through collaboration with organizations like the ICRC.
Ambassador Al-Maghames reiterated KRCS’s commitment to achieving its core humanitarian objectives, providing assistance to those affected by crises and disasters both domestically and internationally, regardless of whether they occur in times of peace or conflict.
Mamadou Sow, Head of the ICRC’s Regional Delegation for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, praised the enduring partnership with KRCS. He acknowledged the organization’s role in advocating for international humanitarian law and upholding its principles and values. Sow described the workshop hosted by KRCS as more than just a training session, but as a platform for promoting humanity by raising awareness, fostering restraint, and encouraging solidarity.
Sow also referenced the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, expressing solidarity with colleagues in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and offered condolences to the families of those members recently lost in Khan Yunis, Gaza.
The workshop focuses on the role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, international humanitarian law, armed conflicts, international law, the International Criminal Court, current challenges, and civilian protection. It aims to bring together representatives from various Kuwaiti ministries, bodies, and associations to promote the principles and rules of international humanitarian law over the course of three days.
