Kuwait city: Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) has launched a campaign aiming to curb plastic use in a bid to raise awareness about more sustainable alternatives, its director general Dr. Faisal Al-Humaidan said on Tuesday. The initiative, christened "My Day Without Plastic," aligns with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's vision to reinforce the principle of environmental sustainability. The official emphasized KISR's efforts to boost awareness about the perils of plastic waste.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the date of the initiative's launch coincides with the 63rd anniversary of when Kuwait's constitution was issued. The campaign's chief and head of KISR's environment and climate change program, Masouma Al-Qasimi, highlighted the sustainability of Kuwait's natural resources as a core concern.
Dr. Fatma Al-Mousawi, the chief executive of the youth platform "Kafu," commented on the initiative, stating that engaging youngsters in such campaigns is imperative to raise awareness about this pressing matter. This year's campaign marks the second installment of KISR's plastic-free program, first launched in 2019, with the aim of curbing plastic use and turning to more sustainable substitutes.
