Tokyo: Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya on Monday called for the resumption of dialogue between the US and Iran, a day after US attacks on Iran's key nuclear facilities. "Japan continues to strongly hope that the path to dialogue will be reopened by efforts toward a resolution of Iran's nuclear issue through talks between the US and Iran," Iwaya said in a statement.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Iwaya emphasized the need to de-escalate the situation swiftly while preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He underscored Japan's commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and pledged ongoing diplomatic efforts in collaboration with the international community.
Iwaya highlighted that the US has been actively seeking dialogue under challenging circumstances related to Iran's nuclear issue. He noted Japan's understanding of the US actions as a demonstration of its resolve to reduce tensions while ensuring Iran does not develop nuclear weapons. On Sunday, US President Donald Trump announced that the US military conducted precision strikes on three significant nuclear-related sites in Iran: Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, claiming that these primary nuclear enrichment facilities were "completely and totally obliterated."
