Tokyo: Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya and his new South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun met on Tuesday to emphasize the importance of bilateral relations and coordination with the US under the current strategic environment, as reported by Japan's Foreign Ministry.
According to Kuwait News Agency, during their meeting in Tokyo, the ministers expressed serious concerns over North Korea's nuclear and missile development, as well as the advancement of Russia-North Korea military cooperation. They also highlighted the issue of North Korea's cyber activities, including cryptocurrency thefts, which are believed to fund its nuclear and missile programs. The diplomats reaffirmed their commitment to working closely together on a bilateral level and in trilateral coordination involving the US to address these issues.
Cho Hyun's visit to Japan marks his first overseas trip since assuming his new role on July 21, reflecting the significance of Japan-South Korea relations in the context of regional security and strategic interests.
