Iraqi Government Uncovers Mass Grave in Al-Muthanna Province

Al-Muthanna: The State-run Al-Shuhadaa (Martyrs) Foundation has announced the discovery of a mass grave in the southern Al-Muthanna province, containing the remains of 155 individuals believed to be executed by the former regime.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the foundation's department of mass graves and the missing affairs completed the examination of a second grave for victims of the Al-Anfal campaign in Tal Al-Sheikha, located in the oasis of Al-Samawa, Al-Muthanna. The excavation yielded remains that are thought to belong to Kurdish women and children who were executed during the Al-Anfal campaign, a brutal operation against Kurds in northern Iraq in 1988.

The remains will be sent to forensic experts for definitive identification. The Iraqi authorities have previously discovered numerous similar graves, highlighting the atrocities committed against various communities during the former regime's rule.
