Kuwait City: Iraq's Federal Supreme Court is scheduled to review two appeals submitted by President Abdullatif Rashid and Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Sudani regarding the constitutionality of an agreement that regulates navigation in the Khor Abdullah waterway between Iraq and Kuwait.
According to Kuwait News Agency, these appeals are set to be heard in the initial sessions tomorrow, with the court's schedule indicating that the proceedings will occur without any pleadings. The appeals challenge a previous decision by the Federal Supreme Court, which declared the bilateral navigation agreement unconstitutional in September 2023.
Last week, President Rashid and Prime Minister Al-Sudani initiated their appeals following the controversial ruling that invalidated the agreement. The decision has sparked reactions from Kuwait, which criticized the court's ruling as containing "historical fallacies." The Khor Abdullah waterway, a significant channel for both nations, has been a point of diplomatic engagement and contention over the years.
