Iran Weighs Closure of Hormuz Strait Amid Rising Tensions

Tehran: Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Monday that Iran was studying the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Baghaei stated that designated authorities were reviewing plans to defend the country against its enemies. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is being considered by the Iranian armed forces as a strategic move. The Strait is a critical chokepoint through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply passes.

Tensions have escalated since June 13, when Tehran and other Iranian cities came under attack from Israeli forces. In response, Iran launched a wave of missile assaults as retaliation. The situation intensified further on Sunday when the United States conducted airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran. The operation was deemed a success by US President Donald Trump, who urged Tehran to seek peace or face further attacks.
