Lisbon: An official delegation from Kuwait's Ministry of Interior visited the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center in Lisbon, Portugal to be briefed about its activities and experiences in the field of maritime navigation.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the head of the delegation, Brigadier Mohammad Qabazard, stated that the purpose of the visit was to understand the operational mechanisms of the center and to enhance cooperation between Kuwait and Portugal. He mentioned that the Portuguese center is open to future collaboration and sharing of expertise with Kuwait.
Kuwait's Ambassador to Portugal, Hamad Al-Hazeem, highlighted that the embassy in Lisbon facilitated this visit. He emphasized the significance of such official visits between Kuwait and Portugal for exchanging expertise in maritime navigation, particularly in security procedures and drug transportation.
Ambassador Al-Hazeem noted Portugal's significant experience in maritime operations, given its strategic position as Europe's maritime gateway from Latin America and its extensive 1,800-kilometer coastline. This position necessitates Portugal's responsibility in monitoring navigation traffic, in cooperation with other European nations.
Furthermore, the ambassador explained that the Maritime Analysis and Operations Center, initiated in 2007 by eight European countries, has broadened its scope in recent years to include countries beyond Europe. It has established partnerships with major European maritime and security organizations and signed several memorandums of understanding with authorities in Brazil, Colombia, and Senegal.
