Kuwait city: First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah announced that Kuwait's efforts in combating drug trafficking have led to a significant 90 percent reduction in drug smuggling into the country this year compared to the previous year.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef made these remarks while addressing reporters at the inauguration ceremony for the renovated 10th Ward at the Addiction Treatment Centre. He highlighted that the Interior Ministry is actively targeting drug dealers who pose a threat to Kuwaiti society.
The minister also revealed that the government is in the process of drafting a stricter drug law that includes severe penalties, such as the death penalty for convicted drug dealers. This legal reform aims to enhance societal security and public safety.
Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef expressed gratitude towards the General Department for Drug Control for their successful efforts in thwarting drug smuggling attempts and dismantling networks of drug dealers. He emphasized Kuwait's accomplishments in both combating drug trafficking and rehabilitating addicts, attributing these achievements to the diligent work of state security and health institutions.
He also mentioned that the Ministry of Interior has been recognized with two Arab awards for its success in fighting drug trafficking. Additionally, he extended his thanks to parents, teachers, and employees for their crucial role in reporting addiction cases and supporting treatment initiatives.
